Student Leaders provide real value to partner institutions, both as a necessary resource and as a gateway to additional talent
BATEC’s Student Leadership’ initiative is designed to focus on successful student engagement. Student Leaders are tapped at each partner institution to assist in recruitment, retention and career informational sessions. These students provide needed resources as well as a unique perspective in attracting under-served student populations.
The students are identified as a diverse group (gender, ethnicity, programs of study, year in school) of candidates selected by faculty members. Each BATEC partner institution recruits annually 5 to 10 active leaders for an average total of 50 students across the partnership.
Student Leaders’ responsibilities include:
- Team up with faculty and admissions staff members during onsite high school visits
- Provide technical support to local Community Technology Centers and high schools
- Assist with computer tutoring at area Community Based-Organizations (CBO)
- Provide computer support across the college and some of its divisions
- Serve as computer tutors for local high schools
