The High Tech College Fair and targeted Community College Fairs connect thousands of students with STEM higher education opportunities.
The fairs are designed to build awareness about IT education programs and knowledge about college pathway connections for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are enrolled in high school technology courses. The programs include workshops on college admissions and financial aid processes; exploration of technology careers, hands-on technology sessions, and advising sessions.
Each year BATEC holds a regional Technology focused College Fair, entitled Our Future is High Tech, which features New England colleges and universities that offer majors in computer science, engineering, graphic design, multi-media and related technology areas.
Annually, an average of over 1,000 juniors and seniors from 27 high schools attend the College Fair. The students’ demographic and gender breakdown averages, over a six-year period, are 42% female; 58% male; 10% Asian; 42% Black; 39% Hispanic; and 9% White. College admission representatives from forty- five regional colleges, including 2 and 4-year institutions, connect with the students, many of whom are enrolled and/or interested in technology programs.
