Bridge To Community College Program

This program provides adult learners the opportunity to take two credit-bearing courses, Computer Essentials and Introduction to Information Technology, accompanied by extensive tutoring in math and language skills designed to improve academic preparation. The courses are offered at the community-based organization on two evenings a week from 6:00 – 8:30 PM during the spring and summer semesters.  Additional accommodations in the form of career counseling and/or academic support are offered to the students to provide more successful outcomes toward full college matriculation.  Students have shown significant improvement in their confidence to pursue further education and have developed valuable skills and knowledge. Bunker Hill Community College partnered with Codman Square/Dotwell Technology Center to offer the program in its fourth year. In 2009-2010, twenty-six students were enrolled in the  Bridge Program at two centers (DotWell Tech Center and Dorchester Bay Economic Development Center). Nineteen students or 73% completed the program of whom sixteen or 61.5% planned to continue their education at the community college level. In 2010-2011, nineteen students are currently enrolled in the bridge program which is operating at one site (DotWell Tech Center).  The program is scheduled to end in June 2011.
