Research in authentic forms of assessment and project and problem-based learning supports the assertion that “clearer targets are easier for students to hit and easier to assess well.” (Stiggins and Conklin, 1992)
Project participants jointly developed rubrics, checklists and other forms of authentic assessment devices to define and then monitor the development of student skills and competencies. To date:
- More than 900 students have engaged in courses designed with industry input
- Over 30 industry partners have actively engaged in the design and development of course materials and assessments
- Over 25 rubrics have been developed, modified and shared by BATEC faculty
- More than 30 authentic projects, cases scenarios and activities have been developed, modified and shared by faculty and industry partners
Faculty and industry partners have collaboratively developed a range of Performances and Work Products used to demonstrate the development of student skills and competencies for the 21st Century workplace. These items can be used to measure student performance and competence in both formative and summative ways.
