Informed by research in authentic assessment, problem and project-based learning, the project builds upon BATEC’s professional development process and existing curricular assets developed over previous years. Common rubrics for employability and soft skills are revisited, updated and shared to bring industry input in to classrooms. Faculty and industry partners jointly update and develop these rubrics for classroom use, engaging students in a more in-depth analysis of the “criterion for success” valued by both industry and faculty. The project design includes:
- Use of 22-item analysis on a survey instrument used to identify and validate workplace skills
- Implementation of a time line of coordinated activities used to engage industry partners in classrooms at several critical periods (beginning, middle and end of courses)
- Faculty reflection and review of information and data gathered from surveys and issues identified during classroom visits by industry
- Industry input and feedback on curricular plans and teaching materials and methods used to develop workplace skills in classrooms
- Student feedback, reactions and reflections on course outcomes as well as industry feedback on performances and products
- Verification of student qualifications, demonstration of skills and workplace readiness
